MATHS We use an internet maths course called Meleto. Jessica is currently doing the Year 6
course and Jacob is doing Year 3.
ENGLISH Jessica reads a wide variety of books (though mostly ones with fairys in them). We do reading
comprehension questions and study pages on books we look at together. We are currently reading through the Chronicles
of Narnia together and Alice in Wonderland. Jessica has only recently started to enjoy writing and she will write short
stories and poetry when the mood takes her. We also use CGP study books.
SPELLING We use an old fashioned spelling book called The Essential Spelling List. Jessica is currently
on age 14 spelling.
SCIENCE We use the CGP Science study books and workbooks as well as using small experiment sets. We
enjoy frequest visits to the Natural History Musuem and The Science Museum. Jessica likes reading her numerous books
about science, especially those about the human body. Jessica finished the Key Stage 2 Science curriculum when she was
7. Jacob has finished KS1 Science and is just beginning KS2.
GEOGRAPHY CGP study books and workbooks plus project work. We have done projects on Australia and
The Netherlands. Google Earth is a good resource to use. We are planning a trip to Paris soon to look at various
buildings that Jessica is interested in. Finshed KS2. We will be starting KS2 over again with Jacob aswell as
using the BBC School site.
HISTORY We have finished the KS2 History Curriculum and will now concentrate on reading various history
books. We have a good range of the Horrible Histories books. We have recently been making a collection of
Aesops Fables and Greek Mythololgy. I will soon start teaching Jacob about Ancient Egypt and he is already planning
a papier mache pyramid.
I.C.T. CGP study books and workbooks. We use the computer for research, study, printouts, downloading
worksheets, communication, games, etc. Jessica loves Clubpenguin and also BBC Bitesize and Primary Games. We use
design programmes for making cards and artwork. Jacob is as proficient on the computer as Jessica is though he does
like to wipe out my desktop from time to time.
ART & DESIGN Art work we do includes painting, colouring, hamma beads, collage, fabric dying and printing,
play dough, moon sand constructions, mega blocks, wooden bricks, K'nex, jewellery making, card designing. We do lots
of art work for projects we are working on. Jessica has made a mask of Tutankhamun from papier mache and also a collage
of the Great Barrier Reef.
MUSIC Jessica and Jacob are both learing to play the recorder and piano. We enjoy listening to all types
of music. Jessica has singing lessons and has attended a workshop with Les Miserable in London. We are learning
about different dance styles aswell. Jessica also sings with Theatre Train on saturdays.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE CGP Keystage 3 French study book and workbooks. Both children are beginning to learn
French, just for the fun of it. Jacob picks up a lot of Spanish just by watching his favourite tv programmes.
We also learned some Dutch before visiting the Netherlands last April.
P.E. Jessica & Jacob go ice skating 3 times a week and have lessons. Jessica is in the Ice
Skating club and Ice Dance club and has performed in their Christmas Show for the past 5 years. Jacob has recently
joined the Ice Skating Club and will hopefully do his first show this year. Both have swimming lessons.
Jessica recently gave up Cheerleading after finding it too competitive. Jessica loves roller skating and is usually
attached to a set of wheels in some form or other.
SOCIAL SKILLS Jessica goes to Brownies, Theatre Train and ice skating club where she meets up
with other children. We all go to the local Home Educators meetings most weeks, as well as attending Families in Focus meetings
a couple of times a month. I take Jessica out and about with me and TRY to teach her social skills in various settings,
such as shops, public transport etc. Jacob is very sociable and enjoys spending time with his friends.
R.E. Both children attend Sunday School. I teach them about other religions, festivals etc as and
when necessary, such as Diwali and Chinese New Year.
